Tito is a very sweet, gentle and sensitive boy. He is attentive to what is going on around him and is constantly watching his foster family with his big beautiful brown eyes. Tito is very shy with people and still learning to trust that he is safe around humans. It will take him some time to acclimate to his new family, but when he does, we believe he will be a Velcro dog, staying attached to his people at the hip. He currently follows his mom around the house booping her with his nose when he wants pets or a hug (he loves gentle hugs, and will lean in when he relaxes into it). He is particularly nervous around men and hats, but does warm up with the right amount of treats and sweet talk.
Tito is absolutely delighted to meet new dogs, both large and small. He is pretty certain that every single dog he encounters is just a new best friend he hasn’t met. He loves his foster siblings and would do well in a home with a confident dog to help show him the ropes. He is very gentle with his elderly foster sister and navigates her space very carefully and respectfully. He attempts to meet every single dog on the street and sometimes a bit more assertive greeting other dogs than they would like him to be. He responds well to correction and the body language of other dogs, but is not a fan of cats!
Tito loves nature. His cautious spirit disappears entirely when he surrounded by trees and and water. He is also been a good sport while boating with his foster family. He’s pretty easy-going as long as he’s made to feel safe and new adventures.
Tito enjoys routines. He is a great sleeper. He goes to bed at the same time every night andsleeps straight through the night ( in a dog bed next to the human bed). He especially looks forward to peanut butter kongs at bedtime, morning cuddles with his trusted humans and long, sweet morning discussions about what he might see on his walk.
Tito is mostly house trained though still has a few accidents when his humans leave the house or when he gets nervous. He is still working on leash manners, but he’s progressing quickly, except when he sees very exciting furry animals, like bunnies and squirrels and raccoons. He does not yet know how to play with toys, but his foster brother is trying to teach him to catch ball and shake stuffies. We are confident he will learn how to play like an expert soon!
Tito will do best with a patient family that loves nature and quiet as much as he does. He would really benefit from being adopted into a family with a confident sibling who can teach him the ropes of being a happy house dog and people who will give him experience that take him out of his shell. We do not recommend that he get placed with a cat or other small animals given his high prey drive, but he is very good with other dogs. We are very confident that he will make a wonderful loyal pet for the lucky family who is willing to help him come out of his shell.
