Mikey is a UK greyhound who joined American Greyhound in July. Like most of the dogs who have come over from “across the pond”, Mikey is an extremely handsome black male dog. He did not race in the UK, although he did have 34 races in Ireland and did a few trials in the UK. Mike will make a great family pet and is very sweet and happy.
Mikey retired due to a TFL (Tensor Fascia Latae) injury, which has since healed. For those who haven’t studied dog anatomy, we’ll translate! This means he strained his TFL, which a triangular muscle on the outer part of the thigh that contributes to hip stability. He did not need any repairs (just rest!) and it’s been over a year since he last raced, so he shows no signs of ever having been injured at all!
The kennel staff describe him as a gentle and loving boy who lives with a female dog currently. They anticipate he will get along just fine with any other greyhounds and big dogs. He was small-dog tested, and did well, but he also was overly excited to play. Not all small dogs like to play, especially with an 82 pound dog, so it is likely that introductions would need to be done slowly just to be safe. He has not yet been cat tested, but will be soon.
