Marino is a four-year-old galgo who has been with his foster family for several months. He is a timid but “spunky little guy” who is still learning to trust humans. His favorite things include morning walks, where he has great leash manners and doesn’t try to pull. Other favorite activities include running after squirrels and rabbits outside, so it is safe to say his prey drive is quite high. He doesn’t play with toys, but he does love having a cozy dog bed to curl up in.
Marino’s foster family no longer crates him, as the crate was more stressful than being left alone with free reign of the house. He is generally well-behaved when left alone, although his foster mom shared that he is very smart and he has tried opening the door using the doorknob after watching her leave the house. Despite some mild separation anxiety, we believe he would be fine as an only dog, or could be equally happy living with other big dogs.
This sweet boy would be perfect for a calm, quiet household, and could do well in an apartment or a home that either has a 6′ privacy fence or is committed to leash-walking him. Marino will need a patient adopter who doesn’t expect him to be confident around new people or in noisy, crowded spaces. He is hesitant around strangers, and especially around men. Due to his prey drive, he also will need to find a home without cats. Although he is shy, his foster mom describes him as a “cutie” who is very sweet. For an adopter willing to work for his trust, Marino will make a great friend!
