Meet Ernie! This handsome black greyhound just turned five years old on May 20, and he is ready to meet YOU! Ernie is a friendly dog who is described as having a “great temperament” by the kennel staff. He loves food, and makes sure to lick his bowl clean after every meal!
Ernie comes to American Greyhound from Romford Kennel in the UK, after a career that spanned 44 races. Luckily for Ernie, he never sustained any injuries during his time at the track, and instead retired only to enjoy being a pet! His last race was in September 2024, and he has been waiting for his forever home ever since. He came to the US in July, and is now staying with a foster family.
As a racer, he went by the name “Da Milkman”, but the rest of the time he goes by just “Ernie”. Like most UK greyhounds, he has experience being kenneled with both males and females, and is very social and happy to spend time with other greyhounds. He is outgoing with a happy demeanor, and will make a great family pet!
Although Ernie has not yet been small-dog or cat tested, we will soon test him here in the US. Volunteers in the UK believe he would be great with children of any age, since he is such a friendly companion.
