Dracula’s Story

I decided to adopt a greyhound when I started looking for my 1st home to buy in the Spring of 2016. I have always had a soft spot for special needs animals and was looking for a greyhound who needed me. I looked at every adoption group in the midwest! In August, I came across American Greyhound and saw they had a younger guy who was going blind, had lost most of his tail to happy tail, and had (has) the perfect name!

I submitted adoption paperwork in early September and arranged to meet him at AG’s annual picnic. I arrived to the picnic early and met Barb, who was fostering my boy. He was in his crate in the registration area, because he wasn’t a fan of all the noise and people. Barb introduced us, and from that point on, I considered him mine. I spent 45 mins with him at the picnic, bought him a coat, and had a few playdates with him.

My home-buying process was anything but smooth, but I knew it would work out. Mega Dracula officially came home with me on October 30th 2016  <3 and I closed on my home the next day, on Halloween. Halloween is my favorite holiday anyway, so adopting a dog named Dracula at Halloween was perfect.

Dracula has gone completely blind and is still a scared guy, but he lives happily with 3 cats and a rotation of foster cats. And I adopted a pit mix who has made a world of difference in Dracula’s life. She helps him get around, and helped him come out of his shell.

I’m thankful I found American Greyhound, and look forward to many more years of picnics which will always be the anniversary of when I first met Dracky. <3
