Andy

Andy is about six years old, and is super affectionate! He is an adoptable galgo who came to American Greyhound from Scooby Medina shelter in Spain in May. This handsome boy is on the large side for a galgo, which is still a bit smaller than a greyhound! He is great with kids and loves his small and medium dog foster siblings. He’s not very interested in cats, but may get excited bark when they run away.

Andy sleeps through the night and doesn’t mind hitting the snooze button. He is doing great with housetraining, with only the occasional accident. This is his first time living indoors, so it is a brand new skill for him! He sleeps in (and hogs!) the bed, but he is also content sleeping on a dog bed on the floor. The important thing is that he’s in the same room as his human!

Andy enjoys both quick and leisurely leash walks. He does very well on leash, and only occasionally stops to stare down a squirrel or rabbit. Loud noises don’t phase him – he’s been around a 4-wheeler and a chainsaw, and wasn’t at all bothered.

While he reluctantly goes into his crate when he needs to, Andy prefers to be with humans or other animals at all times. He is working out some separation anxiety, so his adopter will need to be patient and willing to give him a chance to learn how to enjoy his alone time.

This extremely food-motivated boy will try any treat at least once! He’s working on learning how to use his paws to help chew on bones and larger chews. He loves a little wet food topper to his dry kibble and won’t say no to a refreshing pup cup! Andy also enjoys both small and large squeaky or stuffed toys. Sometimes he’ll throw them up in the air and chase them all by himself! He is mostly low energy but gets the zoomies sometimes.

Andy can be very vocal at times. He’ll let you know if there’s a furry critter in his yard or if Foster Mom leaves the house. He is a very cuddly and lovey boy, and wants to be near you as much as he can. Some of his favorite hobbies include couch snuggles, receiving lots of scritches, and being brushed. He’ll happily accept any pets you can offer!

Foster Mom says, “Over the short time I’ve had the pleasure to foster Andy, I’ve noticed he’s come out of his shell. He’s more adventurous! He loves to go on car rides and explore places. He conquered the scary stairs and squeezes in and out of the dog door. Andy loves having his neck or rump scratched, and is only an arms reach away at all times. He’s curious and calm with a touch of vocal sass to let you know what he’s thinking.”

Andy is looking for an adopter who wants to curl up on the couch and give him the affection he deserves! Is that you? If so, please submit an application for Andy!
