Ray is an adoptable galgo who is six years old, and this sweetheart can’t wait to meet his adoptive family! Ray came to American Greyhound from Scooby Medina shelter in Spain on May 8.
Ray has come a long way in learning to trust his people. He often seeks out attention from his foster family. When someone new enters the house, Ray goes on alert. He is still wary of interacting with strangers when in his home, which is his safe space. He will keep a close eye on those he does not yet know. However, when on a leash, he is much more willing to accept pets from strangers!
Ray is a big fan of running around with the other sighthounds in the pack at his foster home, and has even been known to offer a play bow or two in response to an invitation to play. When not out in the yard playing, a comfy bed in an open crate or the couch is definitely Ray’s happy place.
Ray is a dream on a leash when going for walks. If he gets startled, he will try to bolt, so his adopters should know to hold on tight! Otherwise, he is calm and easy to handle when out and about.
This sweet boy has not had any time completely alone as an only dog, since his foster home is full of doggie friends, but he has spent time kenneled while the humans are out of the house. He handles this well.
Ray would love an adopter who will feed him treats, take him for car rides, and provide plenty of ear scritches. He is especially fond of tasty snacks he can graze from your plate.
He would do best in a quieter home with no kids, at least one confident dog friend, and no cats or small critters. His future adopters will get to see even more of his true personality come out as he settles in, but they should be ready to exercise patience. While Ray enjoys affection, he also likes his own space and prefers to seek out human interaction on his own time. After all he and the other galgos have endured, who could blame him for being cautious?
